Mathematical approaches for powders and multiparticulate units processability characterization in pharmaceutical development

An understanding of material properties and processing effects on solid dosage forms performance is required within the Quality-by-design approach to pharmaceutical development. Several research groups have developed mathematical approaches aiming facilitate selection formulation composition manufacturing technology. These are based particulate, bulk compression-related properties. This paper provides theoretical assumptions a critical review different for processability characterization powders multiparticulate units. Mathematical mainly been directly compressible materials, but sometimes other technologies, such as roller compaction wet granulation, also considered. The obtained compact tensile strength has implemented in majority approaches, an important characteristic describing mechanical Flowability should be evaluated, since it affects sample processability. Additionally, particle size shape, density compressibility, compactibility tabletability profiles distinguished relevant form application may contribute mechanistic attributes development optimization. However, essential select appropriate one, intended characteristics, order ensure that all powder/multiparticulate units characteristics critically evaluated.
